Verona Public Schools Set High Standards for Security with Help from A+ Technology & Security
02/05/2015, Bay Shore, NY: - A+ Technology & Security Solution, a leading system integrator specializing in the convergence of physical security, advanced IT and audio/video solutions, has been contracted by Verona Public Schools to provide a state-of-the art, district-wide data network and comprehensive, layered, IP-based security solution. Verona Public Schools, in Essex County, New Jersey, has received accolades for its exemplary teaching and student achievement. District administrators hired A+ Technology with the objective of bringing the district’s IT infrastructure and security systems up to a level commensurate with the high standards for which the District is known.
To support this requirement, A+ Technology is transforming the district’s IT infrastructure by installing a new, highly efficient, high-performance Alcatel Lucent data network designed to support many more users and ever growing bandwidth requirements. All six school properties are being completely rewired internally with CAT-5 cabling, with fiber optic cabling connecting the schools together into a single network. In addition, 107 wireless access points have been established, providing district-wide wi-fi access to the network from almost anywhere on school property.
With a new network in place, the District is set to accommodate the security phase of this installation, which involves a complete shift from analog to IP-based technologies. Initially, 120 megapixel IP cameras are being installed throughout the six schools, with 80 more planned for a later date. Outdoor cameras are manufactured by AXIS Communications; indoor cameras are from IPVideo Corporation. Surveillance video will be transmitted to a SentryVMS video management system, which will allow system administrators to view live and recorded video from cameras anywhere on the network. An ISONAS access control system, which allows school personnel with identity cards to gain access to protected doorways, will fully integrate with the video management system. This means that each time an access point is utilized, corresponding video will be recorded by nearby cameras that shows the individual accessing the doorway. For visitors to any of the District’s properties, eight Fast Pass visitor management stations will be set up to allow school administrators to quickly check visitors’ credentials, ascertain their destination within the building, and enter them into the visitor log. All three security systems – video management, access control and visitor management – will rely on the new network to share and transmit video and data.
“From the time of my initial meeting with Sales Representative, Justin Parish, for a preliminary introduction and right through the planning, development, and implementation of our project, the A+ team has not only met but exceeded my expectations at every step of the way. All the team members of A+ have been extremely responsive and professional throughout the process of our significant network and security project. I would highly recommend A+ Technology & Security to any school district or municipality considering a similar undertaking,” said Paul McDevitt, Director of Facilities with Verona Public Schools
“Working with Verona Public Schools has been an excellent opportunity for A+ Technology to demonstrate its strengths both an IT and Security integration expert. We’re pleased the District has found value in our ability to deliver across such a range of technologies,” said Peter Noonan, Sales Director for A+ Technology & Security Solutions.
